Feeling Blue…

BJ and I recently added a new storage cabinet to our dining room. We found this cabinet on sale at Target a few weeks ago. I’ve mentioned before how much I love a good sale, especially when I’ve had my eye on something.

I really like this piece because it has a vintage look to it. And it’s blue! I’m not that great at yard sale shopping or antiquing so I often find myself waiting for furniture pieces like this to go on sale or clearance before I buy them. Maybe one day I will be able to understand the world of yard sales and antique malls. If you have any suggestions, feel free to send them my way. I’m always looking for new ideas and tips. My problem is that I don’t even know where to start when it comes to buying old pieces. fbfs_bluecabinet6 copy

I’ve been keeping my eye out for furniture to help finish out our dining room. I was excited to come across this piece for storing extra glasses, dishes and cookbooks.

I really love the glass window-frame doors of this piece. It displays our extra wine glasses, vintage Coca-Cola glasses and cookbooks beautifully.

The pumpkins on top of the cabinet, we won at a family reunion last year and I made the flower arrangement. The ice bucket on the right is a wedding gift from my best friend’s grandmother. The ice bucket works as a lovely and unique candy dish. Thank you, Lois! (shout outs to awesome grandmas! I know a few more grandmas who are also pretty awesome)

Now our dining room feels more complete. Even Bentley approves.

Summer Time and the Decorating is Easy

I love great clearance finds at Target. With back to school season right around the corner, that means summer seasonal items are now on clearance. I love perusing Target for clearance items during these seasonal switches.

Tip: for those who are not familiar with where you can find Target clearance sales, they are sometimes found in the aisles, but they are also on the back side of the aisles. Below is a diagram of what I mean by the “back side of the aisles.”

My latest Target clearance find is this tall teal vase. It was originally $29.99 and I bought it for $14.98.

Sometimes you can hold out on these finds and come back a few days later when the prices are marked down even lower. However, you take the risk that the item might not be there when you return.

As soon as I saw this vase, I thought it would look great on our dining room table. I really enjoy decorating the dining room table for each season and I thought this vase would look great with some late summer decor.

I picked out the vase filler below to put in our Crate and Barrel glass vases to compliment the teal vase. The filler is a mixture of floral, greenery and seashells.

After I added the filler, our Crate and Barrel clear glass vases looked like this:

For the teal vase, I chose a simple flower arrangement of three sunflowers, two yellow and one white. Because the vase is so tall, if you use big thick flowers you can go simple and let the flowers lean on the edge of the vase. If you want a fuller look, you could add more sunflowers and some additional greenery or filler. You could even leave the vase empty because the color will let it stand on it’s own.

Our completed table is bright and colorful. I’m really enjoying the color combination of teal, orange, yellow gold, white and green. I love this color combination.

Have you ever found a great item on clearance and couldn’t wait to bring it home? What’s been your favorite find?

A little vase filler goes a long way…

A few weeks ago, I was browsing the clearance racks at Target and I stumbled across this great vase. I think it was originally $17.99 and I bought it for $7.49. I thought it would be perfect for our bedroom to sit on top of the new dressers we bought at Ikea. If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I love tall vases and this vase was a great find.

I was scouring the clearance section again at Target and over the weekend I found this beautiful vase filler on clearance! It was originally $10.19 and I bought it for $3.05!

Since it was such a great deal and I absolutely love the colors, I bought two!

Our master bedroom is full of deep rich oranges and greens and I thought the red and plum tones would complement the green and orange well. After I spent a few minutes arranging the filler, I came up with this:

It looks beautiful in our room on top of our dresser. It’s new home is next to tall arrangement of orange poppies.

I even had enough vase filler left over to use it in the arrangement of gerbera daisies by our bed. It looks better than the former sea shell filler that didn’t go with the decor of our room. I plan to incorporate the sea shells in our bathroom instead.

After the tall vase and the gerbera daisy arrangement, I still have some vase filler left over and I already have a few ideas of how to use the extra.

Have a great week everyone!
